I can't remember exactly when it was last year that I started doin this. I believe it was around October....was the first batch of homemade laundry detergent that I made for the family to try it out. At the time I didn't have my kick butt food processor, so I shredded a bar of soap by hand and added the washing soda and borax to that. Once I was impressed with the results I decided to keep doing it. Although for the next few times that I made it, I went to my friend, Andrea's house. She has a nice food processor. Just shove the bar of soap into the top to shred then, process to powder! Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!! So I mooched from her a while. And then, when Macy's was having a great sale, Robert and I splurged and bought me my super nice Cuisenart food processor (which I use for everything, was totally worth every penny. Haven't spent the money on pre-shredded chz since i bought it!) And now, about every two months, I get all my stuff out and make our easy and cheap laundry detergent.
2 parts processed bar soap (I use fels naptha that I purchase in bulk) 1 part washing soda 1 part borax Stir, add a Tbl to the wash.

Borax is great. There's a great secret for cleaning showers and bathtubs with this wonderful substance. Get a big bowl and fill it with borox and vinegar. Then mix the concoction until it's gooey and slap the mix on the stain. Powerful stuff.
