We spent last week preparing for our dear friends' wedding. I gave everyone fresh trims and made the sign for The Boy to carry, prepared food for our boys to eat at the wedding (including DF cupcakes). We spent all day Saturday at the seminary (where the wedding was performed). The wedding was amazing. The vows were done in english and chinese and we sang worship songs! At the reception there was a woman who, during her toast to the couple, she spoke in english but paused to express emotions through chinese songs!! It was awesome! Not to mention, Tender got to mingle with all these folks from China and practice her chinese! We were so blessed to be involved in any way.
This week is VBS and Tender's last week of Chinese classes. So it's gonna be busy! Class from 8:30 to 2:30 and VBS from 6:00 to 8:30. But its just one week and then we will be able to breath! Swimming has been so fun because the water is nice and warm! About 90 degrees! Just perfect for this mama! Also, we are harvesting green beans now and lettuce and onions. We are right around the corner from carrots and cucumbers. I need to pull all of our snap peas because, sadly, they are done. Anyway, I'm sure that there is plenty more I could share about life right now but no time for now.

A few weeks ago I started some sticker charts in the van. My oldest two boys have problems with behaving in public. Holding hands or tapping one another turns into rolling on the floor and wrestling (wether for fun or in anger) in the blink of an eye. They both do really well without the other around but the facts are that 9 times out of 10 I'm running errands with all six kiddos. So I am trying to give them rewards for when they obey better. So for every 6th sticker on their chart they get a treat. The charts are taped to the window right beside their carseats. Well, the kindness is that Hurricane has been trying to help them obey. She will tell them stories while we shop or tell them to do what she does and then leads by example. Like, how to walk down an isle without touching everything, running, jumping, or colliding with one another, that type of thing. ; ) Tender is at her third day of her Chinese language camp. Robert takes her before class and I pick her up at 2:30 each day. She is loving it so much! She is learning tons about Chinese, lots of hands on projects, and making friends. She has also had great conversations (and challenging) with several of the other kids about God.
Also, we have entered two different libraries' summer reading programs to win free stuff. I think libraries have low expectations for kids in regards to reading. We are almost done with all the goals for the programs. Hurricane is done with both libraries' programs already (in under week). But they got lots of coupons for free ice cream cones and kids meals and such. I highly recommend doing this. I even entered the adult reading program at one of the libraries. But I don't get anything for free, I get entered into drawings. So we will see. |
