The day before Christmas eve we watched The Nativity Story with the girls. Darby really enjoyed it. It brought to life the whole story we talk about surrounding Christmas. Very fun! Christmas eve we opened gifts from eachother. The girls made piles by themselves, totally unsupervised by us. Which meant that Daddy opened one of Bryse's, Daddy almost opened one of Darby's, and Bryse opened one of Cal's! Hee, hee, oh well, It was fun. This was the first time that we haven't had to go to five different houses opening presents at different times. ALL were sent to our house (since we didn't travel) and that made WAY more gifts then we have ever had under our tree. Robert only has to work two days this coming week, so we are continueing fun family time around here! It's been nice! Hope everyone had a blessed Christmas! And Happy New Year!

Took some pictures of the kids in the outfits I worked on for Christmas. Made the girls matching bubble skirt and Cal a matching tie. Then I made our Christmas Card with the pics.
The girls made ginger bread houses a couple nights ago....Here are some pics!
(Weebly is about to get an angry call from me! This is the second time it has screwed up and lost a whole post that I made, only for me to have to retype! end rant)
SO! On December 11th we were honored to go to our first millitary ball! This was my first time to see Robert in his dress blues, he looked very handsome! It was nice to get dressed up and go out together. I wish I could say that we danced the night away, but I can't! : ( Anyway, the ball started at 6:00. We got to sit at a table is a Colonel, but it's proper etiquette to wait until the superior officers sit before we do, so we mingled for over an hour. Then, they asked everyone to find their seat. There were a couple welcome speeches, the presenting of the flags and a ceremony for the POWs and MIAs. They had a small table set up for one that stayed empty in honor of them. Everything at the table symbolized something special. I found the flag and this ceremony very moving. I felt honored to be present. They prayed to start the ball off to. How do you like that? I enjoy being a part of something that seems to care little about what is PC, and more about what is honorable and traditional and respectful. A couple hours in we finally got to eat! I had a salad and vegetarian lasagna (while Rober had the chicken) and a super yummy chocolate cake! There was a little entertainment during dinner. After dinner there were a couple more speakers. The main speaker was very interesting! He had lived thru Pearl Harbor when he was six and could remember it. And he shared stories of meeting amazing people that had one the medal of honor. I felt so humbled to be in his presence! The formal part of the ball lasted around four hours! After that we were beat and ready to just go home. So when they started the fun music and crazy dancing we headed out. I can't help but feel like an ole' fuddy duddy! But once we got home and in our pjs, sitting on the couch. Plus we saved some money with the babysitter by coming home early....I was thankful!! Here are some pics, not many, but a few. I wonder if it's a new thing....many people changing how they celebrate Christmas. I've noticed alot of my friends asking advice on what to do about this Christmas thing. Do we do Santa or not, and how ellaboratly? Do we do gifts or not, and how much in debt should we go? Is it really going to even be about Jesus?! Robert and i talk about these things alot. We've had dear friends that believe that the Holy Spirit has lead them to not celebrate Christmas, and I say, bravo! Let the Spririt lead you! But as for me and my house, this is our thoughts THIS year.... We decorate. We LOVE decorating. I LOVE Christmas music, even the music about Santa! Robert has yearly traditions of making hot cocoa and sitting and watching a few old Christmas shows with the kids. Even Cal is getting into it this year! I love the weather at this time of year. Even though we are in Georgia now and it's not all that cold. We have a Christmas tree and I enjoy snowmen and they are all over the house. (grrr...I just lost a huge couple of paragraphs I typed, I'm retyping this now, hope I don't forget anything) I love that work places respect this time of year and give time off (not matter what their motives, we will take advantage and praise God for the blessing of having our Daddy home for two four day weekends) We do get the children gifts, but only about three apeice. This is because we don't want them to get the "gimme, gimme, gimme" bug! Yes, celebrating Christmas is a constant fight againt the world's superficiality, but isn't everything?! The other day in the van Darby said to me, "Mom, you know what I want for Christmas?" "What?" "Nothing, cuz, I love God and that is enough." So I thought, well, hopefully that is a sign we are doing something right! : )
Santa....we call it "playing santa". Ever since Darby was tiny, as she would go thru her stocking I would remind her that Santa isn't real, Mommy and Daddy just play santa. A couple years ago she became adiment about believing in Santa (probably because of some influence from the preschool she was attending), and that was fine. I didn't blow anything out of porportion. When she would ask if Santa was real, I would ask her what she thought, and then I would just listen to her logic on the subject. Never lying to her. It only lasted two years, and now she's back to wanting to know the real truth. We talk a lot about St. Nicholas. Who really loved Jesus and gave to the needy because of his heart for the Lord. What better example to show our children, right? So we have a book about him and read it every year many times. Darby basically has in memorized. Everything circles back to Christ. "Is Santa real?" "No. We play Santa in memory of St. Nicholas who was a giving man, because of his love for Jesus!" Seems to work for us for now and I enjoy it. Not REALLY Jesus's birthday. Ah...and I we don't ever really celebrate Darby's birthday on her actual birthday either. I don't see an issue with setting up a time to remind us to remember God sending His son to us even though it's not on the exact day or even the exact month. Details! ; ) Anyway, that is how we feel lead to do things for now. In the future, as always, we will follow the Lord as He leads us and always have a peace with those decisions! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! Love you all! Can not fathom that our little boy is one! As Robert put it so eliquently: "I know he's one, and i know he's the size of a two year old, but he's still such a baby! I could just tie a bonnet on his head!" True, true, he's such a baby still. No walking yet, although he stands by himself on accident everynow and then. He talks much better then the girls did at one. He has about ten words: no, mama, dada, papa, more, uh-oh (been saying that since 8 months!), apple (been saying that since 10 months!), ow, ball, bye bye. Sounds that he makes intentionally include: vroom vroom and BOO! He plays peek-a-boo, and thinks that he's hillarious when he hits himself in the head with his hand and yells, "OW!" He wieghed in at 27 1/2 pounds on his birthday and was 30 inches long. Oh! And he LOVES giving kisses!
For his birthday we set up his high chair in the office and called my mom and dad on the webcam so they could watch him eat his cake. My parents have been devout birthday party attendees for EVERY child's party at every age, even when we were 5 hours away from them. So Darby and Cal's parties this year were their first to miss. : ( So we made it easier on the withdrawl by using the webcam. Cal got money and cards from family members, and a little bumble bee buggie from my parents and a large fire truck from us. He enjoyed his cake very much so! : ) Here are some pics! |
