As a family, we dug a grave for Jack on December 22nd. The next day he couldn't stand on his own. We took him into the vet on the 23rd to have him put down. Robert was sure he could lift him but I feared his sore back would be injured more severly and since I was the one that brought him home the first time I ended up being the one who brought him home the last time. Tender went with me and was so brave and loving. The whole family (minus the babies napping) buried him and had a little funeral for him where we prayed and thanked God for the gift he had been to our family. For the story of when we got Jack see here: meet-jack.html. Obviously our family is sad. Hurricane was the closest to him and has really missed him but everyone has cried and missed him terribly so far. Coming home from anywhere is dreadful, because he isn't there waiting on us to run outside. I wake at 6 to read my Bible and pray and now he isn't waiting to keep me company. After we finished burying him I looked up and expected to see him sprinting in the yard as he usually does when we do yard work. Esau, our cat is getting extra attention which, I'm sure, he could not care any less about.

Poor Jack. They really do become part of the family. I still miss Lizza and she has been gone more than 7 years. Give the kids my love. It will get better.
